Portable power stations for Okhtyrka Central District Hospital
Categories: Сompleted projects
Implementation date: 2023 The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation has provided four portable ALTEK 1075.2 W/h power stations to the Okhtyrka Central District Hospital.
Overview:
- The Okhtyrka hospital is one of the oldest in the Sumy region – it is 100-year-old.
- Its medical staff was forced to live and work in the hospital basement for the first 45 days of the war as the city suffered relentless bombardments.
- The hospital was the only medical facility in the area that remained operational during the shelling.
- The hospital performs more than 2,000 surgeries and handles up to 200 deliveries a year.
- The establishment has a highly qualified medical staff comprising 40 specialties, with its emergency and urgent care departments operating 24 hours a day.
Challenge:
- Located in Sumy Oblast, 50 kilometers from the border with russia, it faces all the front-line challenges. The constant enemy attacks caused serious damage to the energy infrastructure of Okhtyrka as the city was shelled for 30 days in a row.
- The missile strike that targeted the Okhtyrka thermal power station in the first days of the war left the 125,000 residents of the city and district without heating and electricity.
- The following power outages could dramatically hamper the hospital’s operations as the medical facility requires a 24/7 power supply.
Solution:
- Every second matters for the resuscitation and surgical departments that must function without interruption. Four portable ALTEK power stations provided by the RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation are an efficient solution for Okhtyrka Central District Hospital during the upcoming winter months. Each of these generators has a capacity of 1075.2 W/h, which can be added to the hospital’s backup power supply.
Gratitude:
- We express our gratitude to the volunteer organization SOS Malta for their generous efforts in making this project a reality. We are confident that this solution will help medical workers of Okhtyrka to overcome darkness, withstand the challenging winter season, and, most importantly, save the lives of their patients.
