“Light of the Future”: RePower Ukraine launches a course for teens

RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation has launched an educational course titled “Light of the Future” for children aged 12–15. The program combines online and in-person sessions and helps teenagers understand how renewable energy works, how modern technologies are transforming communities, and how everyone can make a difference in energy efficiency in their daily lives. The project became possible thanks to the support of donor Westmill Energy — a community-owned renewable energy cooperative in the UK that masterfully blends wind and solar generation, producing over 10 GWh of clean energy annually.
A comprehensive approach
RePower Ukraine combines various forms of community support: we provide portable charging stations and flexible solar panels, and build solar power plants for schools and municipal institutions. Through educational initiatives for children, such as the “Light of the Future” course, we demonstrate how these technologies work in practice and help teenagers understand how to use energy efficiently and participate in their community.
What participants will learn?
The program explains complex topics simply and engagingly:
- the basics of energy and various energy sources;
- renewable energy and its role in communities;
- how solar and wind power plants work, and energy storage systems;
- the future of energy and how each of us impacts environmental resources;
- how the war has affected Ukraine’s energy system and how to use energy efficiently
The course combines theory with interactive exercises so that teenagers can better grasp the material and see how to apply their knowledge in everyday life.
Where will the course take place?
The classes are held in Kyiv (Brovary and Pereyaslav communities), Poltava (Pyriatyn and Kremenchuk communities), Sumy (Konotop and Romny communities), and Kharkiv (Chuhuiv, Zlatopil, and Pisochyn communities) – in schools and local centres where the foundation already supports communities through its energy initiatives.
What do teenagers get?
After completing the course, participants will:
- understand the role of solar energy in powering schools, hospitals, and other critical facilities;
- learn about the benefits of renewable energy sources;
- feel empowered to make positive changes in their communities;
- will be ready to adopt eco-friendly habits and actively participate in their communities’ initiatives
“Light of the Future” is an opportunity for children to feel like they are part of the change, see how energy solutions work in real life, and learn how modern technologies can help make communities more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
