Training “Solar Power Plant Installer: Technologies and Prospects of the Solar Energy Market”: tasks and results

Due to the rapid growth of the popularity of solar energy in Ukraine, there was a shortage of workers in the industry, in particular solar power plant installers, and high-quality training of specialists. In response to these needs, Repower Ukraine Foundation conducted a training for the adult population “Solar Power Plant Installer: Technologies and Prospects of the Solar Energy Market”. The training was held in an online format and consisted of three lectures: The State of the Solar Energy Market and Development Prospects; Calculation of the Economic Efficiency of Solar Power Plants; The Market and Technologies of the Future in Solar Energy. 4 educational webinars for teenagers in local communities: Introduction to Renewable Energy

People, especially teenagers, feel vulnerable due to the lack of access to electricity and internet. Solar energy can provide confidence because it does not depend on electrical grid. To help them learn and understand how Ukraine's energy system and solar energy work, the RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation organized lectures on these topics. The unique value of these lectures lies in the fact that they were held in 4 communities where the Foundation has already installed solar power plants on hospitals. This reassures children that in these critical moments, there will be light! Overview: Lectures were held in frontline communities: Sosnytsia and Mena (Chernihiv region), Konotop (Sumy region), Slobozhanska (Kharkiv region). The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation has implemented a project - installing an advanced solar power plant with an energy storage system at the Brovary Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital. This project is not just a technical solution, but a real breakthrough in ensuring energy independence and environmental sustainability for the region. Technical specifications of the solar power plant: a powerful 24 kW solar station with a 20 kW inverter and a 28.8 kWh backup power system. This combination will provide uninterrupted power supply to the intensive care unit in the absence of external power, ensuring continuity of critical medical processes. A consortium of civil society organizations (RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation, Ecoclub, Ecoaction, Energy Act For Ukraine Foundation) is implementing the project "Renewable Energy Sources for a Sustainable Ukraine", which is carried out by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). Overview: 16 pilot communities have been selected for the project. The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation is cooperating with 4 communities, namely: Mena City Territorial Community, Konotop City Territorial Community, Sosnytsia Settlement Territorial Community, Kremenchuk City Territorial Community. Evaluating Solar Potential for Municipal Facilities in Slobozhanske Community

The RePower Ukraine Charity Fund is implementing the Evaluating Solar Potential for Municipal Facilities project for the second Ukrainian community. This time, the calculation and visualization of solar potential will be performed for 16 municipal buildings in the Slobozhanske community, Kharkiv region. Local authorities, heads of municipal institutions, NGOs, and community stakeholders will receive recommendations on installing photovoltaic systems and thermal collectors on the roofs of critical infrastructure. The project includes calculating the approximate cost of PV instalations and estimating savings on electricity consumption for each facility. Overview: The Slobozhanske community faced an energy crisis when the Zmiivska TPP was destroyed by a missile attack from russia on March 2024. Currently, Slobozhanske is in a problematic situation regarding its residents' electricity, heat, and water supply. We are convinced that change begins with education. That is why RePower Ukraine launched the Sunny Future children's educational project, designed to develop schoolchildren's understanding of renewable energy principles, ecological thinking, and environmental responsibility. The first meeting within the program was held at the Poltava Interschool Resource Center. The first students to join Sunny Future were those in grades 4-8. Captivated by the energy of the future Iaroslava Denisova, the foundation's director, told the children about RePower Ukraine's activities, mission, and motivation for creating an educational program for the youngest children. Oleksandr Subbota, a solar power plant designer in Ukraine, was also a guest at the event. Portable power stations for Okhtyrka Central District Hospital

The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation has provided four portable ALTEK 1075.2 W/h power stations to the Okhtyrka Central District Hospital. Overview: The Okhtyrka hospital is one of the oldest in the Sumy region - it is 100-year-old. Its medical staff was forced to live and work in the hospital basement for the first 45 days of the war as the city suffered relentless bombardments. The hospital was the only medical facility in the area that remained operational during the shelling. The hospital performs more than 2,000 surgeries and handles up to 200 deliveries a year. The establishment has a highly qualified medical staff comprising 40 specialties, with its emergency and urgent care departments operating 24 hours a day. Challenge: Located in Sumy Oblast, 50 kilometers from the border with russia, it faces all the front-line challenges. The educational course was developed by the RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation to provide participants with relevant competencies in the field of designing and installing PV plants. It's tailored for war veterans and those who have been displaced due to conflict (IDPs). We've designed it to be inclusive, welcoming individuals with various needs, including those with concussions or amputations. Our aim is to provide a comfortable and successful learning experience for all. Learning format: online and offline (4 days of practical classes in the training center for Solar PV Installers are planned).
