Rooftop PV Plant for Brovary hospital

Categories:
Implementation date: 2024

The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation has implemented a project – installing an advanced solar power plant with an energy storage system at the Brovary Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital. This project is not just a technical solution, but a real breakthrough in ensuring energy independence and environmental sustainability for the region.

Technical specifications of the solar power plant: a powerful 24 kW solar station with a 20 kW inverter and a 28.8 kWh backup power system. This combination will provide uninterrupted power supply to the intensive care unit in the absence of external power, ensuring continuity of critical medical processes.

The implementation of this project is conducted in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Brovary City Council, and hospital administration. The project will not only significantly reduce the hospital’s carbon footprint but also allow redirecting saved funds to improve medical services and equipment, directly enhancing the quality of healthcare for patients in the Kyiv region.

Overview:

The hospital serves over 187,000 residents of Brovary and the Brovary district annually. In total, the medical facility has 24 departments and centers, and the installed solar power plant is specifically designed to provide backup power for the hospital’s intensive care unit. Therefore, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to this hospital is critically important for a wide range of patients.

Challenges:

  • Due to constant shelling and power outages, the hospital cannot function fully and provide necessary medical care to patients, including not only residents of Brovary but also part of the left bank of Kyiv.
  • In particular, the hospital requires uninterrupted power supply for the intensive care unit.

Solution:

  • RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation initiated, managed, and implemented the rooftop solar installation project at the hospital, providing support throughout the entire process.
  • Our specialists managed all stages, including design, installation, equipment procurement, and communication with the hospital and city authorities.

Rooftop PV Plant Details:

  • The solar power plant is designed and built using components manufactured in Europe by the German company SMA and benchmark quality metal structures manufactured in Ukraine by SOLAR Steelconstruction. SMA is a leading European manufacturer of inverter equipment for solar power plants, known for its reliable, high-quality products and has been operating in Ukraine since 2016.
  • Designed for self-consumption with a capacity of 24 kW, along with a 28.8 kilowatt-hour backup power system for critical hospital departments.
  • Inverter equipment capacity of 20 kW

Gratitude:

  • We would like to thank our donor, the German company SMA, for their continuous support of Ukrainian municipalities and contribution to the popularization of solar energy in Ukraine, and special thanks to the German Government, which systematically supports Ukrainian communities in implementing renewable energy sources.
  • Special thanks to our international strategic partners and donors: German Solar Association BSW, European Solar Association SolarPower Europe, who systematically help Ukraine within the Solar Supports Ukraine initiative. This initiative aims to address power outages in hospitals and schools by using solar energy as a reliable, adaptive, and accessible source of clean energy.
  • We would also like to acknowledge the help and support of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
