Rooftop PV Plant for the Kharkiv City Hospital

Categories:
Implementation date: 2023

RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation implemented a PV plant installation project for Clinical Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 17 in Kharkiv city as part of our program to provide photovoltaic systems for hospitals across Ukraine. We took full ownership of the project, from initiation to implementation, ensuring its successful execution.

Overview:

  • The hospital performs over 4,000 operations yearly and serves as a crucial healthcare facility for the region.
  • It is located 40 kilometers from the border with the aggressor country, adding to its strategic significance.
  • The inpatient department has 585 beds, 700 employees, and a fully functional in-house laboratory for all necessary tests.
  • The hospital is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, including X-ray, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, colposcopy, and cardiogram investigations.

Challenge:

  • Ongoing shelling attacks in the Kharkiv region caused systematic power outages at the hospital.
  • The hospital requires an uninterrupted energy supply for critical departments to provide urgent and vital medical care to wounded people and all residents in need within the region.
  • Vital medical equipment in departments such as emergency rooms and intensive care units relies on a stable power supply.

Solution:

  • The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation fully initiated, owned, and implemented the rooftop PV plant project for the hospital, providing support throughout the entire process.
  • Our specialists guided all stages, including design, installation, equipment procurement, and communication with the hospital and city municipality.

Rooftop PV Plant Details:

  • Designed for self-consumption with a capacity of 51.8 kW.
  • Equipped with 96 solar panels, each with a capacity of 540 W, and two three-phase grid inverters with a capacity of 30 kW.

Gratitude:

  • This important project has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the German people, particularly the company BayWa r.e., who acted as the Project Donor. This isn’t the first project that BayWa r.e. has supported in Ukraine. The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation expresses its heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed partner, to all employees of the BayWa r.e., and especially to Jochen Hauff, Director of Corporate Strategy, Energy Policy and Sustainability at BayWa r.e. and VicePresident of SolarPower Europe for initiative and support.
  • This project is implemented in close partnership with the German Solar Energy Association (BSW), SolarPower Europe, and the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine. Together, the associations have launched a highly important Solar Supports Ukraine campaign. This initiative aims to address the issue of power outages in hospitals and schools by using solar power as a reliable, adaptable, and affordable source of clean energy with battery energy storage systems.
