The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation has presented a research report as part of the project “Evaluating Solar Potential for Municipal Facilities” for the city of Ladyzhyn, located in the Vinnytsia region. The PDF brochure can be downloaded using the link provided.

The report includes a map of solar activity and building shading, as well as modelling of the solar potential for the roofs of 20 municipal institutions in the Ladyzhyn city:

  1. Lyceum No. 1
  2. Lyceum No. 2
  3. Lyceum No. 3
  4. Lyceum No. 4
  5. Zaozernenska Gymnasium
  6. Kindergarten No. 2 “Kazka”
  7. Kindergarten No. 3 “Dzvinochok”
  8. Kindergarten No. 5 “Berizka”
  9. Kindergarten No. 8 “Romashka”
  10. Kindergarten No. 9 “Dzherel’tse”
  11. Central City Hospital
  12. Dental Department of the City Hospital
  13. Infectious Diseases Department of the City Hospital
  14. Employment Center Building
  15. Inter-school Educational and Production Center “Spadshchyna”
  16. Sanatorium-Preventorium
  17. Ladzhytloservis Utility Company Building
  18. Music School Building
  19. Culture House of PC “Prometheus”
  20. Children and Youth Sports School

For each institution, the report presents the following parameters:

  • Optimal capacity of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) plants
  • Maximum capacity of PV plants on available roof areas
  • Modeling of roof shading with optimal placement of panels
  • Schemes of solar panel placement on the roof at optimal and maximum capacities of the PV plants
  • Recommendations for optimal placement of photovoltaic installations and solar thermal collectors on the roof

Notes:

  • The optimal capacity of rooftop PV plants is calculated based on the average statistical energy consumption by municipal institutions, equipment costs, and efficiency with minimal investments.
  • Maximum capacity is determined by the area and shape of the roof and may not necessarily be optimal; this modeling does not consider consumption and economic factors.
  • Before installing solar panels, it is critically important to conduct a structural assessment of the roof’s load-bearing capacity to withstand loads. This will help avoid potential problems and maintain the safety and efficiency of the system over the long term.
  • When constructing PV plants, it is strongly recommended to engage reputable contractors with experience in this field. The use of reliable equipment is also crucial for ensuring the efficiency of the PV station. This approach will help minimize risks and ensure the stable operation of the system throughout its operational life.
  • Recommendations for installing solar panels and solar thermal collectors are advisory in nature and cannot be used as mandatory regulatory documentation. We emphasize the need for the development of technical and economic justification and project cost estimates for the implementation of solar power projects.

The initiative “Evaluating Solar Potential for Municipal Facilities in Ladyzhyn City” is being carried out within the project “New Energy – Facilitating Dialogue for Sustainable Development of Ukrainian Coal Regions”, implemented by partner organisations Germanwatch, the Centre for Environmental Initiatives “Ecoaction”, and the Luhansk Regional Human Rights Centre “Alternative” with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
