In Kremenchuk, a project for implementing renewable energy sources in the medical sector has been completed. A modern solar power station has been installed on the roof of the Kremenchuk Intensive Care Hospital “Kremenchutska”, which will significantly reduce the medical facility’s energy dependence and contribute to its sustainable development.

The Kremenchuk Intensive Care Hospital is a powerful multi-profile medical facility serving the southern hospital district.
The hospital’s inpatient department is designed for 611 beds, including 421 adult and 190 pediatric beds, as well as 31 intensive care beds. Annually, the hospital treats approximately 18,800 patients and performs up to 6,500 surgical interventions.
The hospital includes neurosurgery, anesthesiology, traumatology departments, a cardiovascular center, and other specialized units that provide round-the-clock medical assistance. The hospital’s consulting and diagnostic center receives up to 190,000 adult and 25,000 pediatric visits per year.

The need to install a solar power station is driven by the facility’s significant energy consumption – in 2024 alone, the hospital used 1.19 million kW of electricity, amounting to over 7.5 million hryvnias. Powerful diagnostic equipment, including CT scanners, angiographs, X-ray machines, and ventilators, requires stable and substantial energy supply.
The project features the installation of a high-capacity grid-connected solar power station that will significantly reduce electricity consumption from the city grid during daylight hours. This will:
- Substantially reduce electricity expenses
- Decrease load on the city’s electrical grid during peak hours
- Redirect saved funds to medical service development
- Contribute to improving the city’s environmental situation

Oksana Korlyakova, Director of the Kremenchuk Intensive Care Hospital, comments: “Installing a solar power station of this capacity is a strategic decision for our hospital. A modern medical facility requires significant energy resources to provide quality patient care. Our own power station will allow us to substantially optimize electricity costs and invest saved funds into developing medical services and improving patient conditions.”

Vitalii Maletskyi, Mayor of Kremenchuk, emphasizes: “Modernizing the intensive care hospital’s energy system is an important step in developing the city’s medical infrastructure. Such projects not only improve medical service quality but also make our city more ecological and energy-efficient. This is an excellent example of synergy between international partners, local authorities, and the medical community to achieve a common goal – improving the quality of life for city residents.”
The solar power station installation project at the Kremenchuk Hospital is part of a large-scale program to implement renewable energy sources in Ukrainian medical facilities. The successful implementation of the project serves as an example for other medical institutions and demonstrates the effectiveness of solar energy use in the healthcare sector.
The project was led by RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation, as part of the project “Renewables for Resilient Ukraine” implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection (BMWK).
