Our RePower Ukraine Foundation is launching a new important project – Evaluating Solar Potential for Municipal Facilities in Ladyzhyn City. The project is being implemented in partnership with Germanwatch, the Center for Environmental Initiatives “Ecoaction”, and the Luhansk Regional Human Rights Centre “Alternative”, with the support of BMWK in collaboration with GIZ.

In the harsh winter of 2023, Ladyzhyn City faced an energy crisis when the Ladyzhyn Thermal Power Plant, its primary source of electricity and heat, was targeted by missile attacks from russia and seriously damaged. This prompted the city to seek alternative solutions, leading to the installation of gas turbine generators. Recognizing the importance of sustainable energy, the RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation has launched a groundbreaking project in Ladyzhyn City.

The utilization of solar energy is crucial for the sustainable development of Ukrainian communities. The construction of PV power plants combined with the installation of other renewable energy facilities will enable a shift from centralized power supply to decentralized distributed energy generation. The development of alternative energy sources contributes to enhancing the energy security of communities, reducing dependence on coal, and mitigating the impact on the environment.

The project “Evaluating Solar Potential for Municipal Facilities in Ladyzhyn City” entails a precise evaluation and visualization of solar potential using solar mapping technology. This involves the analysis of various factors such as solar radiation, topography, building geometry, roof shapes, and shading. The objective is to provide detailed recommendations for the optimal placement of solar panels and thermal collectors for 20 municipal establishments in the city.

Understanding the solar potential will enable the city of Ladiyzhin to more efficiently implement projects for the installation of solar energy systems, thereby reducing dependence on traditional coal-based energy.

The solar initiative by the non-profit organization RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation in the Ladyzhyn City is a significant step towards a sustainable energy future and contributes to Ukraine’s “green transition” from traditional to renewable energy sources.
