The RePower Ukraine Foundation is launching a project titled “Assessment of Solar Power Plant Installation Potential for Municipal Facilities in the Slobozhanske Community, Kharkiv Oblast, Using Solar Mapping Technology.” This is a unique and currently the only project in the country aimed at building energy independence for communities.

The project involves a detailed analysis and visualization of the solar potential of roofs on 16 communal buildings in Slobozhanske, providing local authorities with recommendations for optimal placement of solar panels and thermal collectors. This will help the community make informed decisions about installing solar power plants to maximize their efficiency.

The project plans to identify the most suitable locations for placing solar panels and collectors on roofs and surfaces of municipal buildings, taking into account solar insolation, terrain, roof shapes, shading, and 3D modeling.

Successful examples of similar projects in other communities have proven that such initiatives can radically reduce local budget expenditures on energy resources. The community also gains strategic energy autonomy and independence, making a significant contribution to combating climate change.

This initiative is an opportunity for the community to undergo an energy transformation, follow the example of successful European cities and communities, and move to the forefront of sustainable development in Ukraine.

The project is part of the RePower Ukraine program, supported by a project initiated by the German government within the framework of the “New Energy – Promoting Dialogue for Sustainable Development of Ukrainian Coal Regions” project. It is implemented by partner organizations Germanwatch, Ecoaction Center for Environmental Initiatives, Luhansk Regional Human Rights Center “Alternative” with support from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany in cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH through the German Energy Agency (dena) together with the State Agency on Energy Efficiency of Ukraine. It will help the community become less vulnerable to fluctuations in energy prices.
