Ukraine is preparing to face new energy challenges this autumn and winter! The most severe energy resource problems are anticipated in the frontline cities and the Odessa region. These areas are at risk of facing shortages in electricity and gas supply. Also, regions heavily dependent on gas and coal-fired power generation, notably Zaporizhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and partially Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and the controlled parts of Luhansk, will encounter substantial difficulties.

The Odessa region, already a problematic area for energy infrastructure prior to the war, is poised to experience heightened challenges. Frequent equipment failures, accidents, and power outages were existing problems even before the aggression from the neighboring terrorist state happened. Additionally, the region’s energy security is unreliable due to its limited alternative power supply routes and reliance on a grid passing through Russian-occupied Transnistria, Moldova. This dependency raises concerns about potential disruptions and vulnerabilities.

It’s important to note that adverse weather conditions also exacerbate the energy crisis. Harsh weather, including strong winds and heavy rains, often leads to power outages in various regions. Even areas surrounding the capital, Kyiv, frequently suffer from electricity disruptions due to these weather-related challenges.

Amidst the escalating energy crisis, PV installations in hospitals are proving to be a beacon of resilience in the face of energy challenges. Equipped with backup battery systems, these solar facilities harness and store energy from the sun, stepping in when the conventional grid falters. This initiative not only safeguards critical medical equipment but also supports life-saving procedures that rely on a consistent power supply.

The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation urges international partners to stand by Ukraine’s side during this difficult time. The nation’s energy infrastructure requires immediate attention, maintenance, and investment to ensure a stable energy supply for its citizens, particularly those in vulnerable regions.

Amidst the escalating energy crisis, hospitals in Ukraine are taking innovative steps to ensure uninterrupted medical services. International assistance and support are crucial to mitigating the potential humanitarian fallout from this energy crisis. The global community’s solidarity is a beacon of hope for Ukraine as it strives to navigate through these challenging times.
