An important energy modernization project is beginning in the town of Sosnytsia in the Koriukivka district of Chernihiv region. The RePower Ukraine Foundation is implementing a hybrid ground-mounted solar power plant on the territory of the “Sosnytsia Municipal Housing Authority.” This will provide power to the central water intake and water supply for 6,700 residents of Sosnytsia in the Chernihiv region who use centralized water supply services. The hybrid solar power plant will ensure stable power supply to the enterprise even during complete central power outages and will contribute to the sustainable development of the region.

Technical specifications of the solar power plant:

  • Station type: hybrid / ground-mounted
  • Solar panel capacity: 40.6 kW
  • Inverter capacity: 30 kW
  • Battery storage capacity: 25.6 kWh

The installation of the solar power plant will have several strategic advantages for the community:

  • Ensuring uninterrupted operation of the municipal enterprise even during power outages
  • Significant reduction in electricity costs
  • Improvement of the environmental situation through the use of renewable energy sources
  • Increased energy independence of the community

“The implementation of the solar power plant at our enterprise is a significant step forward in the development of Sosnytsia’s municipal infrastructure. This will allow us to guarantee stable operation and quality services for community residents regardless of external circumstances. It is especially important that the project will also help reduce electricity costs, which can be directed towards equipment modernization and service improvements,” – comments Olena Kuzmenko, the head of “Sosnytsia Municipal Housing Authority.”

The main executor of the project is the RePower Ukraine Foundation as part of the “Renewables for Resilient Ukraine (R2U)” initiative, which is implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the German government.

“The installation of the solar power plant in Sosnytsia demonstrates how communities can move towards energy independence. It is especially important that the project is being implemented at a municipal enterprise that provides for residents’ basic needs. This will create additional resilience for the entire community and become an example of successful implementation of green technologies at the local level,” – notes Marina Zamfir, Director of RePower Ukraine Foundation.

The Sosnytsia Village Council supports the initiative and facilitates its implementation. “This project is a great example of how international cooperation and local initiatives can work together to create a sustainable future. The installation of the solar power plant will not only help our municipal enterprise operate more efficiently but will also inspire other communities to implement similar solutions,” – emphasizes Andriy Portnyi, head of the Sosnytsia Village Council.

The project in Sosnytsia is part of a nationwide initiative to develop renewable energy in Ukrainian communities and demonstrates practical steps toward energy independence at the local level.

The project was led by RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation, as part of the project “Renewables for Resilient Ukraine” implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection (BMWK).
