Energy security through the decentralization of renewable sources is the main theme of the new episode of The Building Podcast. The guest of this episode is Kirsty Berry, our Ambassador in the UK.
In this episode, Kirsty speaks about the activities of our Foundation and why energy security is vital for saving lives in communities:
- Protection of critical infrastructure. Solar energy supported by battery storage is the best technological choice for sustaining civil society close to the front line. Without this energy, hospitals and schools simply could not function, creating a huge risk of collapse for communities.
- Security of decentralized solutions. Distributed generation is much more resilient to war conditions because a decentralized power grid is significantly harder for the enemy to target than large centralized facilities. This experience is already relevant for other countries. In particular, the UK National Security Strategy 2025 notes that renewable energy provides flexible and resilient energy security by moving away from centralized generation.
- Training and quality. The podcast highlighted the Foundation’s initiatives to train and reskill former military personnel (veterans) who are learning to install and maintain solar systems. Special attention was paid to the focus on quality, which forms the basis for a reliable and efficient energy supply to communities.
